Kate is a neurophysiologist, athlete, entrepreneur, and certified coach through Being True to You. She advocates for and educates military service members, veterans, and first responders on functional and non-traditional approaches to mental and physical health. Her primary objectives are to help people find the path to healing that works best for them, to change the narrative around how we discuss health in our communities, and ultimately, to remove the stigma associated with diagnoses and asking for help. Kate is also a certified yoga, breath-work, and meditation instructor, and part of her coaching style is to help clients find their way back to wholeness and embodiment through mind-body practices that resonate with each individual.
Kate comes from a military family and has always been passionate about finding ways to help those who serve others. Although she specializes in working with military service members, veterans, and first responders, she is truly passionate about helping all humans navigate the black hole of mental, physical, and spiritual health. She leverages her research and medical background, the latest evidence-based practices, and her experience from her own healing journey to help clients discover creative and effective ways to heal both visible and invisible wounds.
In addition to coaching, Kate is also the Founder & CEO of Coruna Medical, a military-specific medical device company focused on solving the difficult problems facing the injured warfighter, especially as these problems pertain to administering medical care in austere environments. She has been studying and conducting research for 15 years in a variety of different areas, including traumatic brain injury, the neurophysiology of breathing (the brain-breath-body connection), the neurophysiology of meditation, chronic stress, mental health and posttraumatic stress, plant-based medicines and psychedelic therapies, the gut microbiome, physical and cognitive performance, nutrition for optimal health, burn trauma, ocular trauma, cancer and radiation biology, lung infection, arthritis, inflammatory diseases, medical devices and diagnostics, and medical education. She has worked in academia as a medical school Professor, Scientist, Director of Research, and Director of New Programs, the latter of which included the development and implementation of an accredited M.S. in Biomedical Sciences program. Kate has also worked in industry and has extensive government contracting experience with the Department of Defense.
